The International Normal Labour and Birth Research Conference (NLBC)  is a leading international forum dedicated to the dissemination of research, innovation, and evidence-based practice in the promotion and advancement of physiological labour and birth. The conference convenes scholars, clinicians, educators, and policymakers committed to strengthening knowledge and practice that support safe, respectful, and evidence-informed maternity care, with a particular focus on understanding, facilitating, and protecting the natural processes of labour and birth.

For over 20 years, the NLBC has brought together midwives, clinicians, researchers and educators to exchange ideas and strengthen international collaboration in maternity care. Past conferences have been held in the UK, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark – and in Hong Kong in 2024.

Berlin, a vibrant metropolis in the heart of Europe, offers a unique blend of history, culture, and innovation. Late September is the perfect time to visit: the early autumn weather is mild and inviting—ideal for both attending the conference and exploring the city.

The Institute of Midwifery at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, in partnership with the Berliner Hebammenverband (Berlin Midwives Association), will host the NLBC 2026. The Charité is one of Europe’s largest and most esteemed university hospitals, known for its excellence in research and education—an ideal setting for inspiring dialogue and pioneering ideas.

The International Normal Labour and Birth Research Conference 2026 will offer thought-provoking lectures, workshops, and rich opportunities to engage with international experts, exchange ideas, and build collaborations.
